Cherish The Ordinary

Most days my life is anything but glamorous. And I often feel discontent.
Time for an attitude adjustment!

In the craziness of life, cherish the ordinary days!

It was just another ordinary day.

The alarm went off. I did some early am bible study, half groggy, with copious amounts of coffee. I scribbled in my prayer journal. No exciting revelations.

I went to work.
It was work. Nothing dramatic. Nothing new. Just work.

After work, I ran some errands.
*Yawn, I'm bored just writing this.*

And now I'm reflecting on my day.

Nothing out of the ordinary happened.
Nothing for the history books.
No major revelations.
No big events.
No crazy moments.
Nothing radical. Nothing big.
Just an 'oh so good, simple, very ordinary day.'

And you know what? That's a-ok with this girl.

In the craziness of life, cherish the ordinary days!

My life has been nothing but crazy and filled with sadness these past few months. And I've learned a valuable lesson through my little soul crisis:

Not every day needs to be extra-ordinary.

Sometimes, in the craziness of a scheduled life, the Lord blesses us with simplicity. Likely to keep us from going postal on everyone. At least that's my theory.

Life lesson from God today:
In the craziness of life, cherish the ordinary days.

"Lord, let me be happy, even in the most ordinary moments. Let me be slow to craziness, patient in my reactions and gracious to everyone who crosses my path today. And let me learn to embrace those precious days filled with 'ordinary' smiles, hugs, laughter, love and friendship. Because every day that you let me take another breath and live another day to impact your kingdom is extra-ordinary, even when it's overflowing with simplicity. In Jesus name, Amen."

  1. I never know how long an ordinary day will last. Will I wake up from my morning nap with the same abilities that I had when I fell asleep? or will I fall because my megs decide not to work? An ordinary day for me is a reason to celebrate, as is any day where my coffee taste like anything close to coffee ( like today).

  2. I think every day for you is extra ordinary Roger. :)

  3. Amen, Nicki! I was just talking to one of the techs here at work, saying nothing is new, "same old same old" I said. His response? "That's good!" And he is right. Taking your advice and cherishing this ordinary day. I only get to spend it once ;)

  4. Fun to see practical application! My day has been crazy, so I long for one of those special ordinary days! They are few and far between. Love how God has blessed you with some special down time! Blessings to you :)

  5. Sometimes those ordinary days are the most extraordinary ones, yes? Beautiful truths here. Thanks, Nicki.

  6. These ordinary days don't come around very often. I used to look at them as "boring" but now, honestly, I look forward to the spiritual reset they bring. Blessings!

  7. Thank you for your words on ordinary days. Jacquie Reed

  8. Thanks for reading Jacquie!

  9. Sometimes I embrace them and sometimes I grumble about them, Nicki. But ordinary truly is a blessing, especially when we lay it alongside the trials we must face in life. Yesiree Bob! I'll take ordinary and pray that God opens my eyes to the extraordinary ... like YOU! Love your words here and look forward to your continued story of redemption being revealed!

  10. Oh Beth, I used to grumble about them too...until life went wacky and haywire with illness, etc. Now I seriously appreciate it when life slows down. Gives me time to regroup and gain a better perspective. Also allows me to see Him better in the midst of all the trials. Thank you for being such an encouragement. I pray that you have an extra-ordinarily ordinary day today! :) xoxo

  11. I do enjoy ordinary days as often as possible. The banner poem is wonderful, thank you!

  12. Thanks Karren. May your day be extremely ordinary today. :)

  13. Beautiful post Nicki! Learning to embrace every ordinary day can be hard. But the peace that comes with embracing the ordinary!

  14. Amen to that. The peace is a beautiful thing and few and far between lately for this busy gal. In a world filled with radical Christianity, I'll take a beautiful ordinary God-filled day any day! :)

  15. Such a perfect post as we prepare to celebrate an extraordinary gift that was delivered in an ordinary stable. Loved your reminder here to keep my eyes open for His amazing blessings in disguise. Thanks for sharing!

  16. Isn't it amazing how sometimes the simplest things can bring the greatest of joys? Blessings to you Karen.
